Christene's Fall Skincare Edit

Sweater weather, hoodie season, pumpkin spice lattes, and New York Fashion Week are just a few of the things that come to mind as soon as September starts. It's also an excellent reminder to reevaluate the products in my skincare routines.

To be honest, getting your glow on in the summer is as easy as pie. However, getting and keeping that glow once Ol' Man Winter comes calling can take a bit more work.

In the summer, moisture in the air helps skin look and feel dewy. But, as the temps get colder, that moisture slowly disappears from the air and your skin. So I’m showing you the changes I make in my skincare routine to keep skin balanced, beautiful, and healthy — even as temps dip below freezing.

Christene's Fall Skincare Edit

The first thing I do is remove the foaming cleanser from my routine. Foaming cleansers can be drying, so I cut back on their use or remove them from my routine rather than fight science.

Toner

This step, though optional, removes any traces of makeup or dirt left behind by my cleanser. It also helps to balance the skin and adds first-level hydration.

Leave-on Exfoliants

Along with aching joints and 2 days to recover from a night out, aging brings with it a slow down in cell turnover. For that reason, I keep a leave-on exfoliant in my routine. I also have to have a BHA product to work deep inside my pores and help keep my acne-prone skin in check.

Serums

For me, the serum is the product that works the hardest. So, if my concern is brightening, refining, moisture-boosting, spot correcting, etc., this step is where I bring out the big guns for each problem.

Current Options

Moisture - Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Dark Spot Serum

Brighten - Hyperskin Hyper Even

Refine - Paula's Choice Retinol Serum

Hyperpigmentation - Urban Skin RX Eventone Night Treatment

Moisturizers

My serums do the heavy lifting for correcting issues. So I keep my moisturizers pretty simple.

Face Oils

Face Oils are so clutch as the temps drop. They lock in all that moisture, nourish and protect skin from free-radical damage -- they also give an instant glow.

Masks + Exfoliants

During colder months, hydrating face masks and treatments are a priority in my skincare routine. It's also the time when I may be a little more diligent with weekly rinse-off exfoliants. I always follow my weekly exfoliants with a moisture mask, so these two go hand in hand.

Moisture + Light Exfoliation: Face Front Skin Ultra Face Mask

Moisture - REN Clean Skincare Flash Hydro-Boost Instant Plumping Emulsion

Moisture - Lapcos Aloe Sheet Mask

Exfoliation - The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Exfoliating Peeling Solution

Lips

My lips crack and peel at the first sign of neglect. And like most people, winter simply exacerbates this. So proper lip care during winter is just as important as skincare.
