#FaceFlawlessFacial: At-home Facial For Makeup Application with Danessa Myricks Beauty
Applying makeup is fun, and starting with smooth well-hydrated skin makes it even more enjoyable. Felicia and I generally do skin forward or skin first makeup application. This means skin prep is just as important as the makeup itself. Danessa Myricks's makeup application also focuses heavily on the skin first. If you’ve seen her on Instagram or if you've ever seen her in a class, it's mesmerizing to watch. The end result of her makeup application is made more impressive, knowing she formulated most of the products used. Partnering with Danessa for this week's Face Flawless Facial for Makeup Application was a no brainer.

I started by cleaning with the Pomegranate Enzyme Face Wash from Black-owned brand, Glow RX. I let my face dry completely before using this dermaplaning tool. Dermaplaning is essentially a fancy way of saying I shaved my face. Dermpaling exfoliates the skin and also removes tiny hairs or "peach fuzz." It does all this without irritating the skin.
I followed with the Eve Milan NY Lacial Mask. This mask provides lots of skin hydration without feeling heavy or sticky. It's also the sexiest sheet mask I have ever used. Once the mask was on, I rolled with an Ice Roller because it feels fantastic and helps with a bit of puffiness I had because of my allergy face. I was planning to go outside after my facial and makeup application, so my next step was the Bolden Moisturizing Sunscreen with SPF 30. (It's sold out everywhere. I also like this one from Specific Beauty, another Black-owned brand. )
I generally start my makeup application under the eyes. Once my under eye area is even and brightened, I usually realize I don't need to do much more, but that doesn't stop me. (Did I mention fun?)
I started with a drop of Vision Cream Cover in W05. Its closest to my overall skin color, so its good to even out all areas of my face. I wanted an additional lift, so I went over it with W04. Someone on the IG Live said it was like an eye lift — and it really is! (Code FACEFLAWLESS Saves you 20% sitewide at DanesssMyricksBeauty.com.)
I blended the foundation outward and used the sponge with W04 below my cheekbones to help sculpt my face. Next, I blended it with a flat top kabuki brush and then followed with a light application of Evolution Powder in the shade 01.
Eye makeup is my favorite part of makeup application. While I LOVE to see cut creases with 4 or more colors on other people, that is 100%, not my bag. I generally use two eyeshadows and eyeliner. For this look, I used Colorfix 24-Hour Cream Color in Rootbeer and Coinz.
I love these cream shadows because they are highly pigmented, blendable, and easy to work with. However, once they set, they really live up to their 24-Hour name. I generally apply and blend with my fingers then use a small brush to deepen the color at my lash line and smudge under my eye.
Next, I moved to my brows by applying Makeup Forever Aqua Brow in the shade Dark Brown with an angled brush.
I am nothing without Enlight Illuminator in one or two shades. Today I used the shade Desire on my cheeks and swept it upwards almost into my hairline. I went over the top with a blend of Love&Light Beauty Oil in the shade Blaze that I stole from Felicia, mixed with the Illuminating Veil in the shade Goddess. Combining the various shades of illuminators and highlighters help to add dimension to my glow.
I finished my look by dabbing a dusty pink color from The Nudist Luxe Cream Palette on my lips and popping on some falsies from Ardell.

For skin prep that's for pre-makeup application, I like to keep the surface calm. Today I cleansed with Rosen Super Smoothie Cleanser and gently exfoliated with Le Edge before applying Lapcos Aloe Sheet Mask. My final skincare step is to moisturize with Bees Moon Night Time Healer, which is super gentle on my skin and also gives a pleasant glow.
Danessa Myricks Beauty is my forever go-to for skin-forward makeup. Her products enhance skin and really boost the glow. My face never feels masked.
After moisturizing, my first step is to apply Smooth FX Refining Gel. This step works magically under makeup but is also lovely on its own. It glides over the surface and perfects the skin, giving a semi-matte base.
I mix a Vision Cream Cover with a drop of Prism FX Hydrating Lotion in Peach to give my complexion a warm, peachy glow. This gives my skin a really healthy flush.
I'm a big multi-tasker, so I love products that serve more than one function. The Luxe Cream Palettes work wonderfully for eyes, cheeks, and lips. Today I am focused on cheeks and lips. I use the vibrant electric pink shade on my cheeks as a bright blush and on my lips as a just-bitten-stained effect. For eyes, I go a bit more amplified with Waterproof Cushion Liner in Cotton Candy. But instead of trying to execute a perfectly winged cat eye, I like to do an imperfect wash of color on the lid and a smudgy line pressed into the lower lash line. Then I load up on mascara, and - voila, I'm done! [NOTE: If I find my skin is teetering between dewy and sweaty, I minimize the shine by strategically powdering Evolution Powder on the areas that I want to recede.]
